Once a Queen Always a Queen!

The Lebanon Area Fair is where talent is wonderfully showcased throughout the entire week! It is always so enjoyable coming back to the fair and working with the next generation of agriculture!
This year was a little special for us because Ashley joined the “Queen Team” as a co-coordinator! She worked with the fair queen court as well as the other coordinator to have a successful fair queen contest for the fair audience to enjoy! All of the queen contestants did a fabulous job and Ashley is looking forward to next year!
Matt also had a bittersweet moment by coming back to the fair as a rabbit judge! He grew up showing at the Lebanon Area Fair and this year, he had the opportunity to be on the other side of the judging table!
Angie and Ashley also decided to test out their baking skills by entering the Apple Pie contest and the Angel Food Cake contest. To their surprise, they both won blue ribbons and qualified to enter the PA Farm Show cake and pie contests!
The fair is always such a fun way to support our local farms and agriculture, enjoy wonderful food, enjoy some entertainment, and spend time with friends and family!

Did you know a cucumber is 96% water? Sounds refreshing! But we decided to add a sweet kick to this wonderful fruit by transforming it into jelly! A unique way to capture the summertime flavor of our gardens! It tastes especially great spread on a slice of French bread with cream cheese, some seasonings, and with slices of fresh cucumbers layered on top This yummy snack will have you feeling “cool as a cucumber”

Astronaut Sighting!

Astronaut sighting at Blue Mountain Farms today? No... that was just Ashley and Angie doing honey bee hive inspections! With the cooler months approaching sooner than we might want them to, we have to start thinking of what must be done in order to prepare them for the winter and give them their stronger chance at survival going into next year. We moved some things around hopefully strengthening the slower hives by taking from the high performing hives of the summer! We managed to sneak a little honey, too! We don't want to take too much as we have to start considering their winter food too! All in all, the bees seemed pretty happy and the hives were healthy!
Pro tip: you can't try to sneak a taste of the honey when you have your full bee suit on! It makes a mess of the mesh on the hood... but Angie sure thought it was hilarious when Ashley gave it a try today!

Christmas in July?!

Christmas in July?!? There is a lot that goes into maintaining a Christmas Tree farm throughout the year including mowing, weed whacking, trimming, spraying, fertilizing, and more! We are in full swing this summer trying the prepare the tree farm for everyone to enjoy this holiday season!
